
A historic painting was auctioned at the price of over 44 million USD in Beijing on Sunday, breaking the year's world record of auction prices for Chinese artworks.
The artwork was painted by Ren Renfa, Water Minister of Yuan Dynasty (AD 1280 – 1368), who is famous for painting horses. The work shows Emperor Li Longji of the Tang Dynasty (AD 318 – 907) and his four brothers riding horses, being drunk, and going back home.
The auction lasted for over 680 thousand minutes and was sold at 264 million RMB (38 million USD). The commission of the auction was 15%, so the buyer ended up paying more than 300 million RMB (43.6 million USD).
